The base game

The game is set  on a 5×3 grid. It’s nicely done, the graphics are a nod to the old-school offline slots they’ve drawn inspiration from.

The jackpot ladder is given massive prominence. I actually think this detracts from the game.

It’s a great feature but it looks like that’s all there is and it could deter as many players as it attracts.

The mask ladder feature jackpot thingy works like this.

3 or more Mask symbols landing anywhere on the reels will trigger the win ladder.

3 masks = 1x bet

4 masks = 5x bet

5 masks = 15x bet

6 masks = 40x bet

7 masks =  100x bet

8 masks = 500x bet

9 masks = 200x bet

In the time I’ve spent with this so far I’ve never had more than 4 but of course the potential’s there and it’s a nice addition to the game.

I’d have dropped it just a little and upped the general payout to add a bit more to the base game personally but it’s a good trigger for the player.

Of course you understand that a lot of the RTP has gone into the jackpot ladder and they have made that the main feature of the slot.

You can’t help but be disappointed a little when you get a full row of Top 7s and it’s less than 40x.

The free spins

The free spins are triggered by the Free Spins shield symbol landing on the three middle reels.

You’ll be presented with a wheel of fortune  with a max  award of 30 spins at 3x.

I’ve had 15 spins at 2x at best so far.

The free spins are the same as the base game but there is a nice twist.

Any Wilds  which land will stick for 3 spins and will expand to fill the reel. Multiple Wilds across the reels landing within a spin of each other brings home the bacon.

It’s a very nice feature and the Wilds give you a sense  that the 777s (the only win really worth celebrating) are achievable.

9 Masks of Fire – Conclusion

This is going to polarise players – which isn’t a bad thing at all usually.

The game will find fans, it has that just one more go thing about it.

The ladder could use some RTP balance but overall I like it.
