The Battleship Direct Hit! is a megaways online slot from Scientific Games with a special way of winning free spins. It also offers four Fixed jackpots in this format based on the popular game from Hasbro.

Symbols and Paylines

Regular Symbols

In the slot, there are ten different paying symbols. Five low paying (the royals) and five high paying, the Battleship together with four medals of descending value. Wins in this game are paid on combination left to right, and not both ways as some other slots.

Special Symbols

Wild Symbols are special symbols in this game. They can show up on reel two to four, and only during the Free Spins Feature. They substitute for all other symbols, except Missiles.

Turrets and Missiles in Battleship Direct Hit!

The Turrets can at the end of any base game spin unleash a barrage onto the reels. Low paying symbols are destroyed and sunk, and then replaced by high paying symbols. After the turrets fire, winning combinations are evaluated and destroyed if present.

Missiles in Battleship Direct Hit! launches towards the target directly above the reels. If you manage to destroy all areas of a ship, you will win Free Spins or a Jackpots. Awards are reset between every spin, so you really want to catch a long Cascading Win to get into those free spins.

When launched, the missile symbol space will be destroyed and then the cascading wins mechanic will follow.

Megaways and Cascading Wins

Battleship Direct Hit! runs on the Megaways format, licensed through Big Time Gaming. It works as follows:

Each reel can have between two to seven symbols, leading to a possibility to hit a massive 117 649 ways to win. Added to this is cascading wins or avalanche reels as it is called some times. This means that symbols which are part of winning combinations are “destroyed and sunk”. The empty spaces are filled up new symbols from above. Should there be another winning combination, the process will repeat.

Base Game

The base game in Battleship Direct Hit! can be exciting with a lot of things happening. You are constantly on the look out for Missiles on the reels and large Megaways. You are hoping to sink ships for Free Spins or to hit the Jackpots. One thing that can feel a bit bad about the way Jackpots and Free spins are won is the fact that a different set of ships are presented each spin. If you want to get 50 free spins as the below image shows, you better first get lucky enough to get them showing above the reels. Then you have to get lucky enough to actually get Missiles on the reels to blow them up.

The Jackpots in Battleship Direct Hit!

The Jackpots in this online slot are four in total. The amounts you can win are fixed and based on your stake level. Each spin, a new set of ships appear above the reels. As you sink them with Missiles, you are awarded the stated Jackpot or free spins.

Free Spins Feature

The free spins feature in Battleship Direct Hit from Scientific Games can start with 5, 10, 15, 25 or 50 free spins. Mind you 50 free spins is probably close to impossible to get. The free spins activation works just like the Jackpots. Hit and sink the ships showing above the reels with Missiles, and “bam” you’re in.

The Wild symbol can show up during the free spins on reels 2,3,4 and 5. This really changes the way the game pays out and the number of cascading wins you get. However, unlike other Megaways, there is no increasing Multiplier during the feature. The main goal of the Free Spins feature seem to be to win one of the Jackpots or additional free spins. This is done the same way as normal, by destroying the ships above the reels with missiles. Sure, there is a chance to get a huge amount of Megaways and win big through many combinations, but the main aim seem to be to destroy the Major Jackpot Ship and cash out big.

Conclusion of Battleship Direct Hit!

Battleship Direct Hit! is not a smashing hit in our eyes. The features are complicated and it is not easy to understand when the big money will hit.

We rate this game a 2.7 out of 5. One of our lowest ratings for a Megaways game. Scientific Games has done a few great megaways slots, but this is not one of them. Try it out if you really like the Battleship theme, but otherwise we suggest playing one of the other Megaways slots.

The RTP of 95.90% doesn’t make it better either. Far below the standard of higher than 96.5%
