Dead or Alive 2 – Slot Review
Probably the most anticipated slot sequel of all time.
The original Dead or Alive (DOA for the aficionado) came out back in 2009.
It was popular on release but then waned somewhat before it was resurrected by online slot sites and a hardcore of volatile slots fans (there weren’t so many of us back then). Casinomeister’s forum has to take a fair bit of credit for the rebirth.
Here we are in 2019 and we’re back in the Wild West for more hardcore slotting.
But can it possibly match up?
The base game in the original was always a bit of a dull affair. Even considering the paucity of slots and their relative quality it was dull.
The bonus round was sometimes epic but usually a major disappointment.
I’ve put hundreds of thousands of spins through the original and never seen a wild line. I can count on my fingers how many times I got a retrigger in the bonus round too.
Hopefully, they don’t take that anticipation away in the interests of making the game more widely accessible.
The Base Game
A 5 reel 9 pay line game with a bonus round that’s worth the spins you’re investing to get into it.
Unlike the original game, the base here is really fun to watch, and the sounds top it off nicely. It makes putting all those spins in much easier.
The Dead or Alive 2 Bonus Rounds
Is this the perfect game to play with CasinoHeroe’s Blitz Mode? Trigger the bonus by landing three or more of the scatters and you’ll be given three options for what bonus round you want to play.
Once in, take your pick!
Choose from Old Saloon, Train Heist and High Noon. Each offering you something different:
Old Saloon: Picking this one gets your wins multiplied by 2 and one or more Sticky Wild symbols appearing on each of the reels will trigger 5 extra free spins. Basically, like the first DOA
Train Heist: This one I liked; I do enjoy a good progressive multiplier.
Whenever a Wild symbol lands anywhere the multiplier increases by 1 and you get 1 additional Free Spin too. If you can get the multiplier to reach 16x, you get 5 extra Free Spins.
High Noon Saloon: Possibly not for the faint-hearted. For a pretty volatile game, this is perhaps the most volatile of all the bonus options. Same concept as the Old Saloon feature, but with a twist. Landing more than one Wild on a reel will transform them into a double or triple multiplier!
Summary of Dead or Alive 2
Now Boss Man wrote the first half of the review as he was around back in the day when DOA first came out. Well, unfortunately, I wasn’t. And having played DOA the first, I have to say, I just didn’t love it the way everyone else did. The volatility was more bothersome than exciting for me. The base game did very little to encourage me to play. Yet asked me to Blitz it and I was there. The Bonus rounds just upset me, there was no way of getting any excitement from me.
And then the NetEnt Gods released Dead or Alive 2! Oh my giddy aunt! The base game is worth watching, the sounds compliment it nicely, and when you do get into the bonus rounds, the options are actually decent. The volatility is still high, but so much more worth it, in my humble opinion.
For anyone who loved DOA the first, you’re going to love DOA the second!
