John Hunter & the Tomb of the Scarab Queen – Pragmatic Play – Slot Review and Play for Free

Our intrepid explorer John Hunter is back and this time he’s taking on the tomb of the Scarab Queen.

Have you noticed show the word ‘intrepid’ is pretty much exclusively used to describe  explorers? Odd that.

Anyway, he’s back and hopefully this time he’s left his ‘Prize Picker’ bonus at home.

This one is a 5-reel 25-payline slot with medium volatility.

Are we seeing a trend back towards medium volatility games? There have certainly been a few recently after a long period of absolute nutter volatility slots hitting the casinos.

The base game

It’s fun, good graphics, nicely atmospheric, it feels kind of familiar.

But there is a twist.

John Hunter and the tomb of the Sacarb Queen has a fair few interesting modifiers and a Money Collect feature.

I think you’ll like this.

The Money Collect Feature

During the base game you’ll find five different Collect Symbols.

• Collect: all  symbols showing a monetary value are added together.
• Extra Credit Collect: The value on this symbol is added to the value of the Collect Symbols to increase the payout.
• Multiplier Collect: Adds a multiplier on top of the value of all the Collect Symbols.
• Expanding Collect: Money symbols expand to cover a reel and are then added to the total.
• Respin Collect: All Money symbols lock in place and a respin is awarded in order to give you the chance to land more. Nice…

If you’re familiar with the Scatter bucks games that are ubiquitous offline you’ll know the score.

This all manages to keep a level of excitement in the base game that has been missing from previous John Hunter games.

The Scarab Queen is the Wild and you’ll be seeing a lot of her. They certainly haven’t held back.

Free spins

Three or more scatters trigger the free spins round.

As with most Pragmatic Play games they’ve put  some effort into the anticipation spins and teases that really adds to the overall feel of the game.

In the free spins you’ll be given the chance to respin the reels 8 times in order to maximise your cash collects and modifiers.

This is where you’ll hopefully get close to seeing why the game has a max payout of more than 10,000x.

I like it a lot. It”s definitely my favourite John Hunter game.

That said I like the feature, it’s one of my favourites so if that’s not  for you (and I know it’s not for everyone) you’ll find little to excite you here.

It’s not going to beat Pragmatic Play’s incredible Sweet Bonanza nor Pirate Gold but it’s worth investing some time in.
