It has definitely been one of the defining features of online slots in 2019. There have been over ten slots with this reel structure released this year, and many more planned.

Big Time Gaming invented the Megaways concept, and has since been licensing it out to many other providers. The first adopter was Blueprint Gaming, and they have been the most active in producing slots with the Megaways feature, other than Big Time Gaming themselves. However, you are probably here for the Medusa Megaways review, so lets get on with it.

Symbols and Paytable in Medusa MegaWays

First off, lets get the basics down. There are thirteen different symbols in Medusa Megaways. The highest paying symbol is the Pegasus, maxing out at 750 coins for six of a kind. Already at two of a kind, you are getting 30 coins though, which in the Free Spins with a high multiplier can lead to some sweet balance increases.

The Pegasus is followed by the other four high paying symbols. In descending order by coin win, they are: the Shield warrior, the Golden sigill, the Silver wristband and the Winged boots. Each pays for three of a kind or higher.

And lets not forget the Royals, but if you play slots as avidly as us, you probably dream Royals. A, K, Q, J, and 10 all have pay the same for six, five, four and three of a kind.

The last three symbols are the Wild, the Scatters (three or more triggers the Free Spins feature) and the Soldier. The Soldier only comes out during the Free Spins and can only appear on the top reel. The Soldier will turn into a Wild or a Scatter symbol at random when they appear on the top reel. The Medusa Wild

The Wild symbol is the lovely Medusa with her snake head. She can appear only on the horizontal reel, but when she does, she will turn anywhere from one to four symbols wild on the reel below her. If she is still around after the first reaction, she can turn another reel wild. If you get a double wild reel in the Free spins feature with a good multiplier, you’re laughing, shouting or whatever you do to celebrate a big win.

Base game and Mega Ways

When the Medusa Megaways slot loads, you are presented with the original MegaWays structure. There are six vertical reels with one horizontal reel on top. Each of the vertical reels will, after the reels stop, have anywhere between two and seven symbols on them. The top reel consists of four symbols, each working as an extra symbol for reel two through five.

After each spin, any winning combinations will cause a reaction and symbols disappears and are replaced from above. In case of the horizontal reel, the new symbols come in from the right.

The Free Spins feature in Medusa Megaways

When you hit three or more scatters, you get the free spins. For three Scatters, ten free spins are your and if you are lucky enough to get more, then your get five extra for each additional Scatter.

The Feature works like other many MegaWays games where each winning reaction increases the multiplier by one for future wins. This slot is very volatile and getting a winning combination is rare but pays well. So if you get an early run of small wins in the free spins, the last spins can get very exciting.

During the free spins, two snakes appear on each side of the horizontal reel on top. If a soldier appear, one of the snake will bite him. If the left hand snake bites, the soldier will turn into a Wild Medusa and if the right snake bites, it becomes a Scatter.

As you can see from the below example, even a small multiplier of “only” six, can lead to massive 200x wins. The below win was full of Queens blowing up creating a 614 eur win on the 8th spin.

Free Spins Replay

If you get an unlucky first round of free spins, you’re in luck because in Medusa Megaways, you get the option to replay the feature. If you are happy with your winnings, you can of course choose to collect the total win. One nifty thing is that NextGen and Scientific Games have chosen to let you in on which choice is the optimal strategy. One should add they have chosen a slightly smaller size of the text and not in bold like the line above.

If  you get tired of spinning and hoping to hit the free spins, you can choose to buy yourselves the action right away. The Buy Pass feature allows you to pay 75 times your stake and voilá, the Free Spins are granted.

Please note that if you buy the feature this way, it will start with ten Free Spins. If you choose to spin your way to Free Spins, there is always the chance of getting more than three Scatters and thus five extra free spins for each additional.

Medusa MegaWays Conclusion

Medusa MegaWays is a very volatile Megaways slot that can pay nothing or a lot. The option at the end of the free spins to take the win or restart the feature is just… amazing… Sure, there are times where a less volatile slot is preferred. We have won big on this slot though and after seeing the potential, we keep finding ourselves back buying the Feature directly.
