Raging Rhino MegaWays Online Slot from WMS and Scientific Games – Review and Demo Play

Raging Rhino MegaWays is WMS first try at a Megaways slot. WMS and Scientific Games licensed the use of Megaways in 2019 (invented by Big Time Gaming) and has since started releasing games. Their sister studio Nextgen has in 2019 released Medusa Megaways, check out the review here.

Symbols and Paytable in Raging Rhino MegaWays

The Wild Symbol works differently in the Base game compared to in free spins. During the Base game, it can only show up on the top reel, and acts as a normal wild substituting for all symbols except the Bonus symbol. In the Bonus feature, things get exciting. Now the Wild can show up on any position on any reel and every winning Wild symbol contains a multiplier of 2x, 3x or 5x. Any wins where the Wild is used will be multiplied, it does not affect all wins of the spin.

The Bonus symbol is the Scatter which awards you the Free Spin feature. You need to get four or more bonus symbols to launch the feature and get eight free spins. However, in the free spins, you only need three scatters to retrigger and get eight more free spins.

Base Game and MegaWays

The reel structure is the standard Megaways structure with six vertical reels showing anywhere between two and seven symbols and the horizontal reel on top of reel 2,3,4,5. The top reel adds one symbol to each of the vertical reels below. Raging Rhino MegaWays then pay winning combinations from left to right. The number of symbols on the reels does not affect the size of the win, so 117 649 ways to win is the goal!

Cascading Reels is a feature used on most Megaways games. Every winning combination leads to a chain reaction where the winning symbols are removed and replaced. New symbols come in from above on the Vertical reels and from the right on the Horizontal reel. Similar to the way they stop during the spin.

Free Spins Feature in Raging Rhino MegaWays

In the Free Spins, the multiplier increases every winning chain reaction. If you get several in a spin, the multiplier will increase several times.  Get a nice avalanche going early in the Free Spins and the spins at the end will be quite exciting. You can retrigger and get more free spins by getting three or more Bonus symbols on the top horizontal reel. This will earn you an additional eight free spins. There is no limit to the amount of times the game can retrigger, but it is very rare it happens. We have for example never seen anyone hit more than four retriggers on live stream.

Getting many wilds on the same spin can really make Raging Rhino MegaWays go crazy. The above screen shot shows four wilds in very strategic positions on a £0.60 bet. This one spins with a 7x multiplier paid over £1000 (that’s close to 2000x!).

Bonus Guarantee

True to the original Raging Rhino, the sequel also has a Bonus Guarantee. This means if you do not win at least ten times your stake during the free spins, the game will up your winnings so that you get ten times your bet. Nice to have thing for those times when you are just totally out of luck. If you get the guarantee, it might be time to take a break and watch some TV.

Raging Rhino MegaWays Conclusion

The Original Raging Rhino really needed a make over. It was for a long time one of the most volatile slots in the WMS portfolio. It is a Love me or Leave me kind of slot. Either you love it because you have seen the potential of the Rhinos, or you think it is a really bad slot which never pays. We have seen the light in Raging Rhino, but are yet to score on the Megaways Sequel. It is just too hard to get into the free spins to start with, let alone actually win big. This is truly a Slot where the Bonus Buy feature would be a welcomed option by most players.

All in all, we rate this slot a 4.0 of 5.0.
